FAQ & Most Popular Links
There is a huge volume of information on this site! To help you find what you're looking for, here are answers to frequent questions and most popular pages.
Q. How do I get started in endurance?
A. Most important - ask questions! For the Pacific Northwest region, visit our PNER Public FB page and throw out your question(s). You can also keep reading here and click on links. There are two "sanctioning" organizations that support rides that PNER recognizes for points and year end awards. The largest, which encapsulates the entire US and Canada, is AERC - American Endurance Ride Conference. This site has a vast amount of information for new riders as well as long time rider education. Another organization is EDRA - Equine Distance Riding Association and they provide many educational opportunities.
A. You can also visit the New Members and Mentors & Riding Buddies pages on this site.
Q. How do I sign up with PNER?
A. Visit the Membership page to either register as a new member or renew your membership. If you're new, you'll be assigned a PNER # in your welcome letter.
Q. What resources does PNER provide?
A. The list is long! The purpose of PNER is to provide education, support local trails, and to recognize your efforts (both riding and volunteering) through year end awards. Check out the Resources page for Ride Manager support, Forms, Educational Links, Blood Machine information, shop with our wonderful Sponsors, and learn about historical riders. There are even scholarship and other educational opportunities found here.
Q. Are there events other than the rides?
A. Yes! There are members who organize educational clinics and opportunities to improve trails. We also have a Convention each year which has excellent speakers from across the horse industry as well as some of the best known endurance riders. The Convention has a vendor area to help you prepare gear for you and your horse, a tack swap and recognizes the previous year's top horses and riders. Visit this page for all current/upcoming events.
Q. How do I find a competition?
A. The Ride Calendar lists all the rides with links to the ride flyer and website and you can ask the ride manager any questions you might have including how to volunteer which is a great way to learn and will be much appreciated.
Q. The ride entry form (often an online Jotform) asks for my horse's PNER #. How do I get that?
A. Leave this blank for your horse's first ride (even if you're a long time member). When the ride results are uploaded, your horse will automatically be assigned a number. Then make sure you visit the Ride Results or My Results (see below) page to verify your completion and grab your horse's PNER # to use for all subsequent ride entries.
Q. How do I check my ride results and point standings?
A. You can see Ride Results by ride or your own results at My Results if you have your PNER #. It's important to check one of these links within 30 days of the ride so that any mistakes can be corrected. And here's an important tip - try to always spell your horse's name correctly and the same way each ride entry along with using the PNER#s. It's fine if you want to use a barn name vs the registered name, but be consistent or else you'll end up with multiple horse entries and your award statistics might get split up, diminishing your chance of an award. There are a number of catagories under Awards & Standings for horse, rider, horse & rider and some special groups.
Q. How do I contact a board member or committee volunteer?
A. The Organization is listed with contact information. They'd love to hear from you, especially if you're looking for ways to get involved.
